A Google acquisition of the New York Times seems entirely plausible to me after reading this post.
The acquisition would be a deal for Google. Jut take a look at how their values compare. NY Times is $2 billion. Google? A whopping $185 billion. Money is not a core issue in this one.
Shareholders would jump at the chance to sell their stake.

Should global markets be following in the... →
Fundamentals don’t mean #$%$^ when fear sets in. I want to know what the tech bloggers have to say about the recession. Perhaps they need to frame it with the bubble in mind, which reminds me of what Dave Winer said a while back. The bubble will burst when the Google stock plummets. If the stock does not crash, no bursting bubble. How did Google do today? Looks like it dropped 2.65 percent...

Corporate backed projects may have all the money but they are more volatile and could well be cut. Extra-curricular projects may be less flashy but they are there for the long haul.

Under pressure from EMI, RIAA could disappear →
Ars Technica does some of the best work covering the music industry. In this story, they detail a report from Variety about how EMI may pull its funding from the RIAA. That may lead to the disappearance of the organizaton.
What would that mean? The indutry would most likely merge the RIAA with IFPI, another industry group. So, the name may change but that is about it.
